I was a little perplexed by the notion of no one knowing what the NSA was in the late '90s, by then they were not a "mythical agency." I also find it hard to believe that the NSA would not have had a redundant back-up system in place. You can see the seeds of his "Da Vinci" code style of writing and characterization. lastly, found it hard to believe a cryptographer would not be able to interpret "without wax"
