really liked it
bookshelves: bookclub, south-shore-readers, from-the-library

A was a little hesitant about this book because it sounded a lot like Evening Class by Maeve Binchy and that was okay but nothing great. The School of Essential Ingredients is much better than Evening Class. First there is the subject matter-a cooking class vs. an Italian language class-and next there is the writing. Bauermeister writes with a lovely, evocative prose that makes you feel as if you're right in the kitchen with the class. The story is simple and predictable but the descriptions make it seem like it's got a lot more substance. Definitely enjoyable.

Cookiesue9x already on my " to read" list , are there recipes?

Joanie Sadly, no. We actually commented on that at book club yesterday too. The character doesn't really use recipes so that might be why.
