This is one of the books that I feel like I need to read again because I missed so much of the depth of it, the hidden meanings and the wordplays (ie. Hourglass Lake/Our Glass Lake, Insomnia Lodge) while being focused on the plot. I felt it read very differently in the various parts - and I found the first part, the chase so to speak, the most interesting - close rivalled by the closing part, another chase.
The story, as everybody knows, is about a grown man who falls in love with a young girl, age 12. Fate wills it that he becomes her guardian and this advantage he uses to the most.
The story is disturbing, and I found myself both despising and at the same time feeling ... not sorry for and not caring for ... but sort of understanding this pedophile man.
