Sara's review
Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
If I could give this book 6 stars I would. I fell in love with this story and the amazing writing by Victor Hugo from the very first page. The story of Jean Valjean's rise from the depths of Hell is touching and inspiring. After reading this book, I want to be a better person. I admire the values of Victor Hugo, which are very apparent in his writing. I ended up buying a copy and using my highlighter to mark my favorite passages. There are however some phrases that I dreaded seeing. Namely when he would write, "and now for a brief history of..." I would just cringe and know that I would be skipping several chapters. He wrote a brief history of the Paris sewer,(a nice addition), a brief history of a Paris Convent, and my favorite, a brief history of the year 1819. Despite the skimming of several chapters, I cannot wait to read this book again and again. It has become one of my all-time favorite books.
