I enjoy White's Alan Gregory series, but the last two I've read recently have had details (or have lacked details) that weaken the conclusions for me. In this one, Gregory races through the night to Aspen to rescue his girlfriend from a killer. Arriving "in the middle of the night," he "begs a room" from a disgruntled hotel clerk (since when does one need to beg to pay Aspen prices for a room!), eats a hearty breakfast the following morning, makes several phone calls to people across the country, goes shopping for clothes, rents a bicycle and finally arrives at the girlfriend's house at 2:00 in the afternoon. White's stories are interesting and intriguing, but the endings have left me shaking my head.
