I really like the idea of this book and I feel it has a lot of potential to be really good, if Kiersten White knows what to do with the characters and story she created. I guess what I'm trying to say is the story fell a little flat... no spark and it lacked that something exciting (you know what I mean, that "thing" in some books whether it's the chemistry between the characters or the beautifully written narration that grabs your attention and makes you went to think about a book all day or reread the same page over again so it's imprinted in your brain). Maybe that's just me.
Anyway, the main character Evie was suppose to be a paranormal hunter, but she came across as way too naive and wimpy. I was hoping for a little more bad*ss attitude and spunk. She was way too whinny instead... Once again, I found myself intrigued and liking the guy character more (the love interest, his name is Lend). At times though, Evie did have a little Buffy the Vampire Slayer sassiness in her dialogue and if White would stick with that side of Evie she would be more likable. I would like her more.
The vampires in this novel are anything but "sparkly" which is a nice change. I'm very interested to see what this story could be. There is a lot of good qualities in this book and I think with some molding and twicking it could be great. But, I'm no expert... I just like what I like.
