really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, split-narrative, ya
Read from June 03 to 06, 2010

Skin Hunger is dark young adult fantasy, with the most bloodcurdling school for wizards imaginable. Two separate storylines are told in alternating chapters, one following Sadima, a farm girl who can hear the thoughts of animals, and the other following Hahp, a boy who has been sold to the wizard school. The stories never meet up, but slowly some connections between characters are vaguely established. This book ends on a cliffhanger, and immediately picks up in Sacred Scars, the sequel. The alternating chapters work to keep readers from getting tired of either of the main characters, although I found myself more drawn to Hahp and his struggle for survival in the underground caves of the wizard school.
