Princess Smartypants does not think or behave the way we expect a princess to. She doesn't want to be married or get tied down and she would rather roller-disco than go on dates with her suitors. In the end, she gives one of them a kiss and turns him into a frog. This book is an example of a non-traditional path for a girl.
