for years i have been hearing about lahiri's prose, and now i finally know why. the namesake is a tale of love, loss, failure--both to assimilate and to differentiate--and as lahiri leads you through the specifics of gogel's life she also compels you to rediscover the beauty of the mundane in your your life. perhaps you'll even fall in love again. or go buy a cable knit sweater from filene's.
