Anne's review
The Human Factor by Graham Greene
Tom brought this back from the used book store. Given my field (Human Factors) the title gave me a chuckle. What surprised me is that I devoured three chapters as soon as I read the first sentence. I'll let you know if Greene keeps it up.. but so far, things are looking good.
It looks like it might combine my three favorite things: secret lives, WWII Britain, and port.
*****
I was greatly disappointed with this book. Greene promised interesting or scary things that never occur. Nothing really occurs. Just some back-alley talk about cold war Africa, threats, and the death of a minor character. I almost couldn't believe how unfulfilling the ending was.
Greene is better at writing than he was at crafting this plot or these characters. I would love to see the love-child of Graham Greene and Ken Follett get together on an espionage book.
Wait, let me specify. The love child should have the writing ability of Greene and the plot/character skills of Follett.
Otherwise we migh...more
