Orange's review
After the Quake by Haruki Murakami
he stories are succinct, symbolic, and allegorical. They're easy to read, but far from brilliant and earth-shatteringly novel. Many times, I felt as if I were reading fanfiction.
UFO in Kushiro:
It had a promising beginning, but the ending disappointed. I almost felt as if I were reading mediocre fanfiction.
Landscape with Flatiron:
The Jack London bit is apocryphal, sadly! London conceded to charges of plagiarism. He evidently clipped plotlines out of magazines. Wow.
All God's Children Can Dance:
I was underwhelmed by this story and thought it to be agonizingly puerile, but this is a great quote:
"And besides, thought Yoshiya, if it was all right for god to test man, why was it wrong for man to test God?
Thailand:
Funny beginning. Lettuce angel men.
"Strange and mysterious things, though, arent hy--earthquake? We take it for grantedd that the earth beneath our feet is solid and statonary. We evm talk about eople beng 'down t earth' or having their feet fi...more

Hey,
I'm sorry, I accidentally voted that I liked this review, but I actually disagreed with it :).
I wasn't dissapointed with UFO, but I can understand how you feel. Though, I actually liked the ending: I took it from her perspective, and assumed she was telling the truth at the end. (When she apologizes...)
Landscape with Flatiron, despite your feelings about Jack London--who I still think was an amazing writer, even if it's true--I thought was a very strong piece of writing all on it's own. Granted, there was something that appealed to me on a personal level there, but I thought it was well-written & a strong piece of fiction.
I didn't think All God's Children was puerile, but it was my least favorite.
