One of the best books I've ever read, which is weird to say about a book about zombies. Granted, I read Studs Terkel for fun, and I'm a big fan of zombie movies, so I'm kind of predisposed to oral histories on the subject, but the other reviewers are all giving it 5 stars as well so I can't be that much of a freak.
It's graphic, gruesome, and full of satire like any good zombie fare, but it's also funny and surprisingly smart, forcing thought on the nature of government, family, the military, economics, religion, and the human condition in general. Maybe I'm giving it more credit than its due just because it's able to touch on so many topics with a bit of subtlety and intelligence, but either way it's a fun read that I couldn't stop talking about whenever someone asked about it.
