From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg
One of the things I remember most clearly about this book was being disappointed how long it took for "Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" herself to show up. Easily the most interesting character in the book, she doesn`t get a whole lot of stage-time, and when I closed the book I couldn`t help but feel a bit of, "well, what now?" Unfortunately, Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler remains a very private person so the newspaper-esque barrage of "who! what! how! where!" and such will just have to pass.
The book is about an adventure, about two kids actually running away from home without the scary on-the-streets bit - it`s about planning and running away in style. It`s about cleverness and art, mostly. The whole book is a pretty exciting ride, which kind of hurts the ending - okay, yeah, it`s about Claudia and Jamie and not about Mrs. Frankweiler, but on the other hand, what about when they go home? Neatly tied off at the end of the adventure but before...more
