Ruby Oliver, high school junior, has had a difficult time of things since the spring of her sophomore year and it doesn't appear that things are going to swing in her favor any time soon. Her boyfriend broke up with her and her three best friends are no longer speaking to her, and if this isn't enough to deal with, one of those former best friends is now dating Ruby's ex-boyfriend.

As Ruby is dealing with the consequences of being a social leper at school, she also begins to examine the role of various relationships in her life--former, current and potential.

The Boy Book is a charismatic book, and many teenage girls may relate to the issues that Ruby faces. A good way to describe it is a Bridget Jones' Diary for the teen set.
