bookshelves: fiction, sci-fi, short-stories, vampires
Read in December, 2008

The novella which gives this collection its name is excellent. By turns frightening, mysterious, tragic, and occasionally humorous, the reader glimpses one type of end to the human race. Robert Neville is the only human left after a plague of some kind has turned everyone else into nocturnal, violent vampires. Neville spends his days collecting supplies and killing vampires while they sleep, hiding from the sun - thereby becoming the nightmarish bogeyman of the new vampire race. He is legend.

The rest of the short stories in the collection are the worst sort of pulpy dreck. Overwrought, sensationalist, and stupid. I could hardly believe the same author wrote "I Am Legend" and the story about the killer fetish doll.
