This informational book in the American Symbols series tells many facts about the meaning, history, and respect of the American Flag. It tells about the first flag and the many different designs and changes teh flag has gone through. It give information about the star spangled banner and about how important it is to value and respect our national symbol.

This book is great for strictly providing factual information to a younger audience. It is written in language appropiate for around a second or third grader and provides a glossary in the back to explain more advanced words. I also think this book would work well as a read-a-loud because the pictures take up an entire page and the book does not contain an overwhelming amount of text.
