I picked this book up as a possible candidate for a fiction review in my Children Literature class. Telling the story of a strange and very logical 7th grader named Emma-Jean, this book did a wonderful job of bringing a middle school girl's voice to life in authentic and very enjoyable way. Used to being on the outside of her peer group, Emma-Jean uses her intelligence to try to learn more about the strange workings of middle school society. When faced with a sobbing girl named Coleen, Emma-Jean decides to fix Colleen's problems using the power of logic. Filled with crisp dialogue and alternating chapters from Emma-Jean and Colleen's viewpoints, we get a glimpse into the workings of not only middle school students but basic human interaction.
