This book was something I picked up in a Steimatsky's in Israel in August, where English selections are limited and British-edition and I pretty much go by gut instinct. My gut wins this round. The writing was by turns whimsical, hilarious, and a currently-indescribable-by-me kind of description that made me think of things, and envision the narrator's world as well as mine, through a new lens. Sheep blowing up have never been so awesome.

The big reveal caught me completely off guard and was pretty brilliant. A smaller reveal later may not have been as smashingly ingenious as most other parts of the book, but I don't think I even care - it's not really what it was about anyway. Plus:

"I spend a moment dreaming of ninja hernias."

How can you not love a book containing that?
