I enjoyed this book for a while, but eventually I got bored and didn't really care what happened to the characters. This made reading the book become a chore rather than a pleasure. I detested Becky because of her constant deception and treachery. I don't even understand what conceivably would have made her happy. She kept trying to better her situation, but it must have been difficult to constantly repress her true personality to the end of manipulating other people. As for Amelia, she was yet another example of a heroine of classic literature who is good because she is good. UGH! Yes, she was nice, polite, and had good morals. She wasn't interesting, though! Plus, she was really quite self-absorbed (or at least absorbed with George and Georgy) and I hated her indifference to Dobbin (for most of the book at least). Dobbin was the only character I truly liked, though I was frustrated that he was so in love with Amelia when she didn't really exhibit any interesting qualities. ...more
