really liked it
bookshelves: supernatural, funny, romantic, teen

Just when I thought I'd never find another supernatural romance I'd like, along came Hex Hall. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there wasn't anything super original or deeply meaningful about it. It's a very fun read, with a smart-aleck main character, mean girls and outcasts to deal with, an interesting mystery to solve, a hot guy to drool over, spooky badness lurking, the works. There's the usual issue of a big secret being kept from the MC "for her own good" when it turns out it would have been a huge help if she'd known it all along, but otherwise the story it hung together very well. I'd recommend it to fans of the sprightlier urban fantasies, like the Mortal Instruments series, rather than those who crave sappy melodrama, like Shiver.
