After a little bit of a slow start, I just enjoyed the book the farther in I got. I am a dog person. I felt the author captured a 'dog voice' quite well and I was charmed by the 'dogginess' of it all.
It was interesting to have the narrator - Chet the dog - find out what was happening before his detective owner, Bernie, and then watch as Bernie struggled to put all the pieces together. I also liked that the author kept this a little more real life instead of making some supernatural or strange connection of communication between man and dog. When Chet reacts to a name or smell by barking, Bernie and others still think he is just barking at a passing dog or whatever.
Wanted to mention that there are some f-bombs and some religious based swearing. Annoying.
Very enjoyable. Will look for book two.
