I was suprised how much I enjoyed the book. It is a long story but part of a trilogy. Luck aka Firethorn lives in a world were women are of little to no value and she is not a woman of the Blood so she could not marry above her station. There was only one way for her to move forward and that was Galen. Not a saint by any stretch of the word. This story is a love story and one of political intrigue but it is dark. I would have enjoyed it more if the writer had included a map of the country and also an explanation of the Gods. There were parts that were long winded but I enjoyed hearing Firethorn figure out the world and her place in it. She did quite a bit of growing up and experienced much heartache but she was a tough one. I don't know that I would call a great book but it has enough character and unique perspectives that I would say it's well worth the read.
