Ten years ago The Great Tokyo Earthquake affected many lives and destroyed a city. Those among the affected was Ganta Igarashi who was evacuated and has returned. He is now a middle school student who has a pretty normal life until the red man appears and turns his life upside down. He murders Ganta's entire class and as he is the only survivor is arrested for the murders. He is sentenced to death and sent to the very disturbing Deadman Wonderland. This prison is privately owned and was opened by the tourist industry to help restore Tokyo. Ganta enters a very violent environment where he must play a game of survival in order to live and find out why his friends were murdered.

This series is quite disturbing but has some exciting twists and hopeful scenes to keep you following Ganta's story. Although Ganta is a middle school student I would definately follow tokyopop's recomendation for older teens of 16+.
