Ugh. Very clever writing, with an exhaustive (and exhausting) assemblage of literary references, but it was a little too clever for its own good. The story was very slow to develop, and just when it started getting good (around page 300), it failed to deliver, with one of those purposeful, hip "non-endings." After 500+ pages I just wasn't having it, particularly after having been bogged down with the book for a month. I admired the writing from close up, but the big picture never materialized.
