Hard one to review. The beginning is super clunky in terms of the writing- you can almost feel Katherine Dunn overwriting in terms to force you to see that 'THIS IS A DIFFERENT WORLD SHE'S CREATING. . .GET IT? GET IT?" But thankfully, the writing calms down after awhile, though it does still seem a bit forced throughout. I am most thinking of certain incidents (don't want to spoil it for others) where you can tell that she's trying to shock more than simply tell a story. Although, whenever she calms down, there really is quite a lovely story to tell about the tangles of family hisotry, jealousy, devotion and creating an image of yourself despite whatever attributes you were born with. Good train reading, I just wish she had a better editor.
