really liked it
bookshelves: fiction
Read from March 16 to 18, 2010

Enjoyed the re-birth that the characters achieve in this book. Just as caterpillars are re-born into beautiful moths/butterflies... Elnora, her mother, Edith, Phillip...etc... are all re-born with new eyes, new understanding... new futures/hope, etc...

It was really enjoyable reading about a girl who despite the hard knocks is able to keep a sensitive heart... a forgiving, tender, loving one. Most of us choose to build walls, eat bitterness...

Some the writing is difficult... had to re-read portions to understand what was being said... but the story is lovely... Worth the read. Love strong women characters who make their own way in the world...with grace.

Julie This is one of my favorites! I love Gene Stratton-Porter's books. If you can find it, try The Keeper of the Bees, also by Stratton-Porter.

Queen Thanks for the recommendation!!! Is there a book before this? The whole time I was wondering...who is Freckles?

Julie Ah yes, there is a book before this one. I'd forgotten. It's called "Freckles," actually, and it's another classic.

Queen I'll have to add that to my list!
