Terry Brooks was one of the authors I've always enjoyed reading, but ever since he adapted The Phantom of the Menace to fiction it's been a different tune. There's not much bite to the story. What happens when a teenage princess of the kingdom throws her weight around? We'll, everyone falls in line of course. Elven kings? Dragons - no problem. The interesting parts happen in the introductory chapter which focuses on an exiled witch trapped in the body of a raven caged in a zoo. That storyline is never developed and probably a foreshadowing of the next book. There's not much tension and and the ending wraps up quite easily.
