i had seen tolstoy quotes in various non-fiction books (yancey) highlighting his strong christian beliefs. surprise to me AK had finding faith as a major theme. and a sweet coming to faith by one of the main characters. found anna as one of those famous fictional heriones i just don't get, or maybe despise & disrespect (madame bovary - yuck). it's not an immoral heroine i can't stand; it's one who is immoral as well as weak, scattered & unfocused, not knowing what she wants, & whiny. AK was whiney. i'm whiney enough myself, i don't like being reminded in fiction. so i enjoyed the book, but not the "heroine."
