Beth Lambert is the second-best student in her class. Philip Hall is the first-best student. Beth's family thinks Beth might be letting Philip Hall be first just because she likes him. This is a nice and quick Newbery-honor winner about Beth, her family, and friends as she solves the case of the missing turkeys, discovers an unwanted allergy to puppies, welcomes a new little brother into the family, and learns to be her best even if it means being better than Philip Hall. While I did enjoy reading this, I'm not sure I'll be able to remember much about it six months from now.
