It's not that I'm doubting the author's experience, it's simply that I have trouble relating to someone who is way out of my economic class. When one makes a statement that even in her grief, she remembered to "send out the laundry" or that Pedro (I'm sorry, I don't remember the actual name, but it was Hispanic) must have cleaned up the blood (from her husband falling after he had a heart attack)...who is Pedro? Houseboy, manservant? I still don't know. I just knew that her experience of grief was not the one I was looking for. Give me a woman who does her own laundry (preferably by hand and using a hand-crank wringer) and I'll read about her.
