really liked it

How envious did I become of Lusa by the end of this story?!! I imagined settling in on a farm and enjoying the simplicity of a life that includes family and the complexities of providing for oneself by working the land. I loved the thought of days starting early, progressing with hands in the dirt and the discovery of animals and insects all around and ending in sweat-stained clothes, sore muscles, and a home-cooked, home-grown meal. Throw in some family time and I'm set! Of course, this is a romantic version of life on a farm, but I enjoyed living vicariously through Lusa as I enjoyed dreaming of such a life. (Could have done without the detailed ridiculousness of Deanna and Eddie Bondo - their story was absurd - but still the book was very much worth the read!)
