First debut in 1985, the movie is directed by Steven Spielberg.
A fantastic movie about an African American woman's life in the mid 1900s. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I watched it several times. The cast and everything else about this movie is wondrful.

Color Purple is about Celie (Whoopi Goldberg) who is raped by her stepfather as a young girl and forced to mother his two children, but he sends the children away, leaving her heart brokened. He then sells her to a man (Danny Glover) who treats her like a slave. She is a child herself, but she is forced to care for his children, the house, and "him". She has to assume the role of mother at such an early age. The movie continues with her growing up in this household becoming a shy and beaten down woman. With the help of Danny Glover's love interest (Margaret Avery), Celie begins to feel some self worth.

The movie has so many characters and important details, that it is hard to sum up in short. It is a great movie for any age and it delivers something special.
