I started reading this book expecting a romance something along the lines of Jane Austen, maybe a little a darker, but an Austen-ish romance nonetheless. Given those expectations, I guess it's not too shocking that I got something surprising. I suppose that Jane Eyre could be called a romance, but that's not really the way I see it. I see it as a story of coming-of-age, a story of finding your own place in the world, no matter what other people may expect for you. I was really impressed with the way that Jane always did what she thought was right, no matter how much it hurt her. Her courage and perseverance were really inspiring. I truly liked Jane a lot, and it was her strong character that made this book so enjoyable for me, not any romance that occurred between her and anyone else, no matter how much fun that may have been.
