This was my first book by Nalini Singh, but it wasn't my last. After reading this book I got online and ordered all of the books in her other series.
I really liked the world that Singh created with this novel. It is definitely a concept I haven't read before. I love when someone comes out with a new way to portray angels and vampires. I didn't just love the book for its world though. The author did a great job creating compelling characters.
I don't usually enjoy stories featuring controlling ultra-powerful men, but it really worked for Raphael's character. I actually loved the fact that he was so powerful and removed from humanity that Elena had to struggle to get him to respect her. It really would have been hard to believe if he was a nice caring guy given his position and age.
There were some things in this book that were brought up but not resolved. It bothered me until I went to the author's website and discovered that there are more books featuring these two still to come.
I really liked the way that the author introduced the angels as something beautiful and innocent but then slowly exposed the corruption and danger that is present in their ranks. I thought it was very well done.
I liked the dynamic shown between Elena and her Guild Hunter group and between Raphael and his Seven. I'm interested in learning more about both groups.
I appreciated we got to see Raphael acting cold and harsh instead of just being told about it happening in the past. I wouldn't have liked his character quite so much if he turned to sweetness and light after he met Elena. Truthfully, I like him because he is dark.
After the surprising event that happened at the end of the book I'm dying to read the next book. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I'm hoping to read this one soon. I had planned it for an August reading challenge, but got caught up in other things. Reading your review makes me think I shouldn't have put it off.

I have reread this one many times. I just loved it to death. Rereading my review makes me feel I didn't do the book justice. What can I say? It was in the beginning of my commitment to writing reviews. I hadn't quite gotten comfortable with it. :) I hope you read this soon! The end scene and the aftermath is so frickin' powerful. I totally got a little misty and had to tell my husband I got dust in my eye when he started giving me odd looks.
I liked book 2! DO NOT READ REVIEWS OR EVEN THE DESCRIPTION OF IT OR YOU WILL SPOIL BOOK 1!!!!
I liked getting more in depth with that stuff I have to remain vague about. I also liked seeing that new location and getting to learn more about the intricacies of the world...
Archangel's Consort comes out January 2011.
Thanks for the information, Catherine! I've gotten so many "you must read this..." from several of my trusted Goodreads buddies. I'm not sure why I haven't gone for it yet.
I'll try to remember one for after my September challenges. That way I'll be closer to book 3 as well. I have 1&2, I believe.
Great review, Catherine! Your love of this book and series has got me excited to read this! I haven't read any books by Nalini Singh yet but am looking forward to reading her books this year.
I've had this on the to-read list for a while. Your updates and reviews make me want to get it right now...(or maybe after I finish Shadowfever). Great review, Catherine.

Great review! I keep meaning to check on Singh... I hear tons of great things. I have the first couple Psy-Changelings on my shelf, but I haven't jumped into them yet. Soooooon....
Catherine,I am totally with you on the Singh fan club train. I love her two series so much! Every time I reread them they just get better, I think this series gets better after the first reading because you understand it better every time.
Great review (and I love that you have an "assassin-killer-bounty-hunter" shelf, that's spectacular!)
You have an assassin Killer bounty hunter shelf? I need some of those books for a book challenge! I'll have to go and take a peek.

I completely agree. I've picked up on foreshadowing and comments that I missed or didn't understand the first time around. I always get something new out of reading them again.

Great review,Catherine. I've never read her,either. I've heard good things so I think I'll give her a try,too.
