I'm not really sure why I gave this 2 stars instead of 1. Maybe because it linked together some still shots I have in my memory from movies I saw in my childhood and a birthplace for them. That doesn't even make sense, does it? What I am saying is, after reading this, I understand the old school hollywood depiction of poor Southerners. I have also heard references to Tobacco Road and now I get those. It was also very easy to read. I'd say it took 2 or 3 hours.

Aside from that there is nothing in here that says literature to me. It just feels outdated and weird. Comparisons to Hemingway, Faulkner, Dos Passos, etc make zero sense to me. But in my quest to read the 100 "greatest" books of the last century I occasionally have to do these things.

Peace out hombres.
