I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous Chrestomanci books by Diana Wynne Jones.

In Conrad's Fate, Conrad has applied to work for Stallery, because his uncle has convinced him that he has bad karma. In order to get rid of his karma, he needs to find someone in Stallery that he has to kill. Once he has killed this person, his karma will go back to normal.

So, Conrad applies for an apprenticeship, and he meets up with Christopher, the nine-lived enchanter (from previous Chrestomanci books), who is also applying for a job at Stallery for reasons of his own. My favorite bits of the book were actually when Christopher was involved. It was nice reading about Christopher now that he's a few years older than the last time. Christopher is a bit vain, a bit cocky, and altogether a much more interesting character compared to Conrad.

Not a book I'd read again.
