Even as someone who did research involving cell lines, including HeLa, for several years, this book did not initially appeal to me. However it got selected for a book group and was highly reviewed so I went ahead and ordered it. I am hugely impressed with how readable this book is, not to mention the sheer volume of energy the author, Rebecca Skloot (is that not the quirkiest, funnest last name you ever hears?), poured into it. The story of Henrietta Lacks' background and family is extremely interesting in its own right, immortalized cell line or not.
