At several points in this book, I thought I wasn't going to end up liking the book. So much of it was disturbing like The Giver and that very ambiguous ending make me absolutely hate that book. Fortunately, the ending in Unwind is hopeful and there are more people fighting the system, which makes change seem more plausible. I do think it ends setting up for a sequel and I may take a pass on reading the second one. I mean there is only so much you can read about the chopping and selling of parts of teens. Overall Shusterman does a great job creating a world with such an undercurrent of plain sadness. Unwinds make something of themselves after a whole life of believing they were worthless, parents either still don't want their living unwinds, or they regret their choice to unwind their children. Just an immoral mess!
