YA - Totally unbelievable premise, but nonetheless compelling story of a family's life underground after a nuclear explosion destroys the world . . .or does it? Pretty solid YA family drama adventure.
Grade 8 up, ages 12 up.
Eli’s father saved the family from nuclear war. At least that’s what they’ve thought for the six long years they’ve been living underground in the extravagant compound his father secretly constructed with part of his billionaire fortunes. His father tells them they’ve got to stay underground for nine more years before it will be safe outside. Now for Eli, survival in the compound is all a matter of keeping a good routine, a routine that’s interrupted when things in the carefully constructed compound begin to go awry. Some food’s been poisoned and it seems his father has been lying about a few things. And what exactly is his father planning to do with the human “supplements” he’s created? Eli, still mourning the death of his twin brother and his grandmother who didn’t make it into the compound, begins to realize that everything might not be exactly as it seems.
