• At first, this book was very difficult to read. Anne Rice was originally known for her erotica, and this book I think she was trying to recapture that. Roughly the first one hundred pages of this book are about Armand and his various sexual exploits. Now, I don’t really think of myself as a prude or anything, but this was constant. Sometimes I think all the sex got in the way of the story. At any rate, by the time Armand becomes a vampire the book does pickup. Overall, it isn’t a bad read. You just have to get through the useless smut before the quality part of the story opens up.
