This is my favorite book of all time, by far. I've read it a number of times, and everytime I read it I see it in a different light. One of the most powerful books I've ever read about memory, mothers, love, and circumstance. This book has the most beautiful prose I've ever encountered and, since the narrative is told primarily through children's eyes, reads like a children's story. I find myself often unconsciously slipping into her lyrical prose when I think about my own childhood, ever since reading this.
