really liked it
bookshelves: historical, romance, classics-retold, books-for-grownups

I picked this up hefty novel because of the Jane Austen ties. (I just can't resist anything that ties to Austen!) At first I didn't like it. A couple characters drove me nuts. But I decided I would give it one more chapter. And I am so glad I did. It was a good book. I ended up liking the characters. I thought the history that was twisted around each other was fascinating. The romance reminded me of one of those Nicholas Sparks romances. The history was interesting. The post WWI and WWII information touching. Glad I read this. (Even though it did take a while to really want to.)

Laura Wadley Have you read any of Anthony Trollope's books? I think you would like The Warden or Barchester Towers. A little after Jane Austen's time, but very funny in similar ways.
