Sabina, a half-vampire, half-mage assassin has to come to terms with stunning revelations about both sides of her family. At the same time, she is caught up in vampire vs. mage intrigue in an assignment that tests her family loyalty to the max.

The story was entertaining enough as were some of the characters (particularly the hairless cat demon), but I didn't love this book. Mostly because the main character was just not lovable. Or even particularly likable. Pitiful, yes. Clueless, yes. Scary psycho-bitch, yes. Anyone I would ever want to meet, hell no.

Still, Red-Headed Stepchild kept me entertained for a few hours, and I'll probably pick up the next book in the series from the library, so I can't complain too much. Maybe the main character will grow and become more agreeable in the sequel.
