** spoiler alert ** Wow, what an amazing conclusion the series! The characters stayed trued to themselves, no fancy "oh look he is really alive" surprises at the end, (as much as I wanted Cinna to actually be alive and rescued from the hands of the capital).

This final book is about the hard choices that have to be made in order to bring about change. Lives will be lost, but at what cost? And whose lives are worth more? Should those that side with the Capital or who have always lived int he decadence that is the Capital way of life be condemned soley on that fact alone? Or should the cost of human life be considered at each junction, regardless of whose lives are at stake? These are just some of the struggles that Katniss must navigate as she finds herself the symbol of the rebellion.

The survival of District 13, and that the Capital knew they were still out there...was not surprising twist, but a nice direction in the story. District 13 abandoned the other districts in the Dark Days...and has spent the past 75 years not only waiting until the other districts sought them out, but also preparing for that day when they would be able to take over the Capital.

While Peeta has been put through a great deal by the Capital..and will ultimately never be the same, he manages to voice some the sagest advice...to remember who is talking to you, try to figure out why they are NOT telling you, and what is their end game?

For a young woman, thrown into the role of the face of the rebellion, whose primary goal has always been to protect and care for those she loves, she does a fine job of following her heart, listening to ALL those around her, and making choices as she feels is right, even if they are not popular.

I found the ending to be very true to the story and the characters. I liked how it ended, when all the pieces of the puzzle are laid out, it is the only logical conclusion for Katniss, the one that will provide her with the best sense of balance and security for her life.
