Lonesome Dove is one of those classic western novels that you just have to read. If you have ever seen the miniseries then I can tell you that you have not experienced the true Lonesome Dove. If this novel was made into a TV series, it would be suitable for HBO. Violence, sex, booze, gambling, its all here.

This book has been called one of the most realistic look at the wild west. I cannot say that can evaluate that statement, but what I can say is that I have a new found respect for the people that lived in this period of history in North America. It was a hard life, made for hard people. You either made it work, or you died.

This was a page turner for me, and yet a meditative experience. A true tribute to the journey being more important than the destination.
