In this second book in the series, we learn that Lucy is really not Jack's sister, that in fact his real sister, Hazel, was kidnapped by hobgoblins and Lucy was left in Hazel's place. Jack must set off with his father, the bard and Brother Aiden as well as the girl Pega, whom he freed from slavery, to St. Filian's monastery to cure Lucy of her rages. There they meet trouble; Jack sets off an earthquake and the Lady of the Lake steals Lucy and shuts off the water to the holy well. King Yffi imprisons Jacks father and threatens to kill him if he doesn't restore the water.

Many adventures are in store for Jack and his friends. Along the way they enter the world of hobgoblins, elves and other creatures. I found there were too many details, but a great story nonetheless.
