An interesting twist on one of my favourite SF sub-genres, which deals with the evolution of humanity into a variety of forms, some of which end up transcending or transforming their consciuosness and their relationship with the universe as a whole.
The twist is that the story is told by those left behind on earth, which is to say robots and intelligent dogs, who have reached the stage that humans are just a legend whose veracity is doubted by most. It's actually structured as a series of short stories, but the thread is maintained and the overall vision is engaging, despite the thin characterisation and clumsy expository dialogue which is par for the course in this genre.
