I had a cold on Sunday and so curled up with this book--and what great company it proved to be! It made me laugh out loud and hold my breath in anticipation. I'd like to be able to write some perceptive things here about its choice of main character, its tone, its tracing of a marriage past the courtship stage, its satirical touch, its representation of colonial India and Indians, its idea of Britishness--all so interesting. But right now I'm still in the smiling haze of being so thoroughly surprised by this book I'm so glad I stumbled upon.
