really liked it

you read the blurb and ask yourself: it's a story about a school drive to sell chocolates?!

trust me, it's so much more than that. yes, it's fundamentally a story between good and evil but then you reach a certain point where you can no longer distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. you start to question the characters' motivations for doing what they do - why archie orchestrates twisted plans against everyone-the school administration, the popular kids, the bullies, even against the vigils; why brother leon is venomously hell-bent on punishing people who he thinks defy him; why jerry continued to refuse selling chocolates even after the vigils relieved him of his "assignment"; why obie is both disgusted and enthralled with archie's ideas.

and if i'm as enthralled as obie at archie's cunning and could only muster token symphathy for jerry's plight, does that mean i'm not a good person?

a very thought-provoking book, highly-recommended.
