really liked it
bookshelves: ya, 21st-century, series, dystopia
Read in July, 2008

This book is so disturbing and so engrossing that when I went out to do errands this morning I felt at first as if I should be stocking up on food, water, and matches. Then I began to feel guilty about some of the wasted food I'd had to toss from my refrigerator. Then I came home and read the chapter where Miranda says goodbye to her father and is fairly sure she will never see him again, and I wished I had bought Kleenex...

I've been told the second book is even more disturbing but I can't stop now so have put it on reserve at the library. Luckily, it is out since I have work to do this weekend.

Lisa Vegan Great book! I haven't read the second one yet.

CLM Susan Beth Pfeffer is going to be interviewed on NPR early on August 1.

Lisa Vegan Oh thanks. That show doesn't air on NPR in my area but it looks as though one can listen online/to the archives. I'd never thought to go there but she has a really good blog.

CLM Yes, although be careful if (like me) you have not yet read the sequel to Life As We Knew It.

Lisa Vegan Thanks for the warning. I've already heard more than I like to know just from reading blurbs.
